The '''Delta Quadrant''' is the common designation for one of the four quarters of the Milky Way galaxy. It lies in the "north-east" region of the galactic map, adjacent to the [[:Category:Beta Quadrant|Beta Quadrant]] and the [[:Category:Gamma Quadrant|Gamma Quadrant]].

==Overview==
Unlike the other three quadrants of the galaxy, which appear to have been dominated by one or more major political entities, the Delta Quadrant is largely decentralized in terms of political landscape. Although hundreds of interstellar powers have been documented, they are spread out across thousands of light-years. Most have had no communication with and little knowledge of each other except for their closest neighbors.

Some factions, such as the [[memoryalpha:Vaadwaur|Vaadwaur]] or the [[memoryalpha:Krenim Imperium|Krenim Imperium]], have been known to exert enormous influence in the past. However, none have persisted into the late [[memoryalpha:24th century|24th century]]. This may be caused in part by the presence of the [[memoryalpha:Borg Collective]] who, up until recently, maintained a fearsome control over large sections of the quadrant.

Since the return of the [[memoryalpha:USS Voyager|''USS Voyager'']] in 2378, Starfleet and others have taken a renewed interest in exploring the far-flung reaches of this remote region of space. Yet, it was not until the advent of the [[Delta Quadrant Exploratory Group]] that any concerted effort involving crewed vessels was undertaken to revisit the quadrant.
